Greetings Quilter,

There is a reason I haven't made many quilts that use diamonds.

I suspect that many quilters are like I am.

Even though I love diamonds, most of the time when we sew diamond patches together, it requires set-in seams. And those can present some challenges.

Plus, for whatever reason, diamonds aren't that easy to cut.

Maybe it's the lack of good rotary templates. Possibly it's that the angles are a little more difficult to work with.

Who knows!

But, the fact is that I have avoided working with diamonds.

Last year, Jan Krentz came out with a book about creating star quilts (Quick Star Quilts & Beyond), and I took up the challenge to make an 8 pointed star.

The picture gallery of quilts in Jan's book gave me the idea to make my star using stripes.

Broken Star Quilt made using a strip piecing technique.

And her instructions showed me how to cut the diamonds using her nifty fast2cut™ ruler.

I was amazed how easy it was - using the techniques Jan showed in her book. Not only was it easy, but the quilt went together in no time at all, and the center is flat!

Years ago I made a Broken Star quilt using diamond patches. It was somewhat challenging, since it was very early in my quilting days.

But I took advantage of a strip piecing technique so I wouldn't have to cut and sew all of those tiny diamonds individually.

The thing is, both of my diamond quilts are stars, and I keep thinking it might be fun to create a quilt that looks like diamonds, but really isn't.

There are two problems - one is my limited imagination in coming up with something that would be interesting and easy to sew. The other problem is sewing the quilt together without using a ton of set-in seams.

It's not that I don't know how to sew set-in seams. After all, both of my star quilts used set-in seams, so I got a lot of practice.

It's just that sewing set-in seams isn't my favorite thing to do.

Because of all of that, maybe you can understand how excited I was when I saw the newest resource from our friend, Jan Krentz, Quick Diamond Quilts & beyond.

Making these quilts promises to be just as fun as making her star quilts.

Jan Krentz is a nationally recognized quilt instructor, author and designer. Winner of the 1998 Teacher of the Year award, Jan's motivating workshops are packed with practical tips, techniques and methods to insure success.

And her books deliver the same fantastic information just as if you were in a workshop with her.

You can make this dramatic diamond quilt - whether you have ever made a quilt with diamonds before or not.

So, why go anywhere else but the expert to learn how to do something?

With Jan's newest quilting resource, Quick Diamond Quilts & Beyond, you will learn how to make some really fun and dramatic-looking diamond quilts in a breeze.

Once inside Quick Diamond Quilts & Beyond, you will see:

  • 12 new diamond quilt patterns - without set-in seams
  • tips on color value, texture and contrast that will make your fabric selection as quick as can be
  • an inspirational photo gallery of more than 30 quilts that will stir your creativity and get you started cutting fabric
  • techniques for using geometric fabrics to make your quilt shimmer and shine
  • ideas for machine appliqué to create whimsical wall quilts

If the quilt on the cover is an indication of the interesting quilts inside, I'm excited.

Her use of color and "texture" makes this quilt look vibrant and 3 dimensional. And those diamond shapes aren't cut out like diamonds.

I can't wait to read her tips for choosing fabrics that add that quality of texture and dimension to her diamond quilts. Or any quilts for that matter.

I'm sure that the techniques she uses for these diamond quilts can be used on any other quilt you or I make.

This resource is so new, that you won't find it on any bookshelf yet. And, if you do a search on amazon.com, you will discover that they are estimating arrival sometime in late March.

You may be thinking "What do I need another quilting book for?" And, trust me, I'm familiar with that thought.

And I have tons of quilting books that line my shelves. The thing is, jult like fabric, many of these books are in your local shops for a short time. And, if you don't get them right away, when you want them, you can't get them.

Besides, if you are anything like I am, you get great ideas for other quilts, too, when you thumb through the right resources.

Because we are friends of the publisher, we can get a head start on delivery of this fantastic resource.

But, time is short. Our order needs to be in my Monday, February 8 - bright and early. And in order to be sure that we have your reservation, you'll need to let us know whether to include your name on the list by Sunday evening, February 7 at midnight Pacific Time.

Once your reservation is made, please be patient. The publisher is telling us that the books will be in the mail around the 22nd of February. So, it could be the end of the month by the time yours arrives in your mailbox.

Still, yours will arrive way before any of your quilting friends even dream about this resource.

Just think, you might even have a quilt completed by the time they discover this fabulous new resource.
